I never really knew where the north side of Roseland started . LOL But i considered everything north of 111th an michigan the north side . As a little boy I lived on the east side on 113th an ave m. My mom an gramma used to take me to roseland to see my cousin an I used to take the bus ( How many people remember stick shift buses ) to 103rd an michigan an transfer onto the Green Hornet streetcar . The Green Hornet would go south through Roseland an turn west at 119th street . We used to wait for another bus to take us to 123rd an michigan where we got off . Back then I think it took about an hour an a half to make the trip . Back then the worst thing that could happen is we would miss the bus or streetcar LOL .

Graduated from Pullman in 1954 and Fenger in 1958. Lived at 112th and Vernon and 119th and Yale. What a great place to grow up. I didn't know at the time what a great place it was until many years later. I worked at Gately's and the Post Office during xmas and Daves Sport Store for 3 years in High School. So many great memories-- Palmer Park pool, Sheldon's at 111th and Wallace, the State, Parkway and Roseland theaters,

In last message didn't mention that I grew up on 105th and Indiana Avenue. Went to Bennett ( graduated 1948 ) and Fenger (graduated in 1952). Roseland was one of the best places to grow up in. I still talk about it and great times we all had there.

So wonderful to see this site about Roseland. I grew up on 110th and State Str. (1 block from White Castles) in the 1960's.
My father had Joe's Barber Shop on 119th Yale. He used to give Dick Butkis his hair cuts!
Would love to connect with some of the old people from Grade School, etc.
Got my 1st kiss in 1st grade by Scott Beauchamp in front of our school Van Vlissingon. It was exactly at that time that the Principle Walked out & saw us! He shook his finger at us!
Stayed til the early 70's & the Race Riots then off to the suburbs.
Would love to connect with Dawn Schexneider (matusek's granddaughter), Chick the hippy with the super long hair who cut it because I told him to and anyone else from the "Hood"!
Thanks,
Cindy

We lived across the street from Palmer Park. I have 2 sisters - Peg and Pat and a brother Rick. I will always call Roseland my home town.

I really like coming back to this website once in awhile and reading about how much this community, we were all apart of meant to all of us. I know I wish my son could have grown up in a community like Roseland.
The sad thing is not everyone can be apart of the reunion this year. Unfortunately I missed last years, and had heard that it was a great time. I was really looking forward to going this year.
